JA-SAFE Kick-off Meeting,
Athens (3–5 November 2025)
The Kick-off Meeting of the Joint Action on Smoke- and Aerosol-Free Environments (JA-SAFE) took place from 3 to 5 November 2025 in Athens, Greece, hosted at the Royal Olympic Hotel and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The event was held in hybrid format, welcoming both in-person and online participants.
Over the course of three days, the meeting combined internal working sessions, strategic discussions, and formal opening events, offering a comprehensive start to the Joint Action.
Day 1 (3 November) focused on work package-level collaboration. Internal sessions brought together partners from WP2 (Communication and Dissemination), WP5 (Promoting SAFE in Europe), and WP9 (Strengthening Disease Prevention and Health Promotion). The evening conclude with a Coordination Welcome Reception at the Athens Club, setting the stage for informal networking.
Day 2 (4 November) featured further working sessions, including WP8 (Tobacco-free Generation), WP3 (Evaluation and Benchmarking), and WP4 (Sustainability), followed by a Steering Committee meeting for WP leaders.
In the evening, the consortium gathered at the NKUA Main Hall for presentations on coordination, dissemination, and administrative aspects. The highlight of the day was the Official Opening Ceremony (19:30–21:00), followed by a formal reception at the Kapodistriakon building.
Day 3 (5 November) closed the event with dedicated working sessions of WP7 (Scaling up interventions for tobacco control and SAFE in healthcare settings) and WP6 (Preventing Alcohol-related Harm). After these forward-looking discussions, participants departed, carrying with them a clear roadmap for JA-SAFE’s implementation.
The Kick-off Meeting is designed not only to plan and coordinate activities but also to strengthen relationships among consortium members, ensuring a united and effective start to this European collaboration.
